Visit Virginia City, at one time the most important city in SW Montana, now providing one of the most well-preserved glimpses into the gold rush days. Visit the Opera House and the Thompson-Hickman Museum, or ride horses at Montana Carriage, or screen for rubies at the Red Rock Mine and Garnet Gallery.

Directions and Other Information

DO NOT FOLLOW GPS TO RUBY RIVER RESERVOIR, IT WILL USE DIRT ROADS. Follow these directions: Turn right onto US Hwy 191, in 5.5 miles turn right onto Hwy 287N, in Alder, turn left onto 1st St, which will bear to the left and become Upper Ruby Rd, go about 9 miles and arrive at Ruby River Reservoir.

Elevation 5,404ft. Dispersed sites, use established circle/site. Toilets, no dump or water.

Dump and water available at the Rambling Moose Campground, 1302 E Warren St, Virginia City, MT. $5 for dump, water varies depending on size of tank, up to $10.
