Haines offers great hiking and kayaking, view Bald Eagles at the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve in October, visit the Kroschel Films Wildlife Center, raft or kayak the Chilkoot River, and kayak Chilkoot Lake. Drive to Chilkat State Park for a view of the glaciers. There is an abundance of wildlife to view in this area including bears, but remember you can’t carry bear spray across the border. Visit Fort Seward, one of the last military bases built in Alaska during the Gold Rush. Also visit the Haines’ historic cemetery with headstones dating to the late 1800’s. And a Haines, Alaska must see is the Hammer Museum.

From Haines go 11 miles north on Chilkoot Lake Road to Lutak Road.
