Blue Mesa Reservoir is Colorados largest body of water with 96 miles of shoreline and the largest Kokanee Salmon fishery in the United States. Lets go fishing!!! Head down to the Gunnison Diversion Tunnel, a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, that routes water from the Gunnison River through the mountain to Montrose and other farming communities. Attend Ranger led hikes and Ranger campfire programs to learn about the area. Take a day trip to Crested Butte. Other activities include visiting Gunnison, kayaking, hiking, and bicycle riding. Can also visit Black Canyon of the Gunnison from here.

Elk Creek Campground on the Curecanti National Recreation Area. Elevation 7,540 feet.

Please note, traffic conditions and road work listed below. Suggest you may want to travel on Sunday if you can change your reservations. The first meeting will still be on Monday at 4pm.
16 miles west of Gunnison on US-50. (970) 641-2337 Dump and water are available at the campground. $16/night for non-electric sites. Electric hookups in loop D only, additional $6/night. Loop D recommended for larger rigs. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made up to 6 months prior to your stay. Work Hours: Monday-Fridays 8:30 AM-5:30 PM (THROUGH JUNE)
Nightwork: Monday-Thursday 7:30 PM-6:30 AM (THROUGH NOVEMBER*)

Monday-Friday OPEN for single-lane, alternating traffic operations in the morning, midday, and evening during the following times:
6:30 – 8:30 AM (Mondays open to two-way traffic)
12:30 – 1:30 PM
5:30 – 7:30 PM

Full roadway closures all other times:
8:30 AM-12:30 PM
1:30-5:30 PM
7:30 PM-6:30 AM

Fully OPEN on the weekends to two-way traffic (5:30 PM Friday to 8:30 AM Monday)

Motorists should plan in advance, and expect long wait times during the queue for the Monday-Friday single-lane openings, alternating traffic operations in the morning, midday, and evening. And full roadway closures reduced speed limits and narrowed roads. Significant delays are anticipated. Restrictions for vehicles over 70 feet in length and 10 feet in width are in place through the project area.

*Nighttime road closures continue throughout the project from 7:30 p.m. – to 6:30 a.m. until project completion. Nighttime closures are necessary for public safety and allow the work crews to access challenging and narrow work areas.Traffic schedule and timeline are weather dependent and are subject to change
