The capital city of Louisiana offers a wealth of things to do and see. Tour the New and Old State Capital Building; the new building is the tallest state capital building in the US and offers great views of the city. The old capital building is reminiscent of a castle. There are a wealth of tours; including tours of the city, plantations, swamp and brewery tours. Museums include the Louisiana Art and Science Museum, the Old Governor’s Museum, the LSU Museum and the Southern Museum of Art, and many others. There is also the Baton Rouge Zoo and Global Wildlife Center.

The Meriwether Lewis Site on the Natchez Trace Parkway is where Lewis, of the Lewis and Clark team, was found dead. There is mystery surrounding his death, as he was on his way to Washington DC to clear his name due to a financial scandal he had been caught up in. There are several historic trails available for hiking in this area.

The Campground offers hiking; the Robert Foster Hiking Trail displays the diversity of trees Kentucky has to offer and the C.E. Rager Nature trail is a nice short stroll along the shoreline of the lake. Great for poking around and possibly seeing the resident white squirrel of Baileys Point! Birding is also a popular activity with a variety of species including kestrels, indigo buntings, bald eagles and at night you can hear the calls of barred owls. Fishing is also popular on the lake. Not far away are other attractions such as the National Corvette Museum, Kentucky Down Under, Diamond Caverns, and many other day trips within reach.
