» Anchorage, AK
Since Anchorage is really Alaska’s only city, this is an opportunity to stock up on food, gas and propane, catch a movie, etc. But also take a 1-hour trolley ride tour of Anchorage. Drive along the scenic byway to Turnagain Arm of the Cook Inlet along the Seward Highway. The tides here are among the highest in the world. Watch as rushing water ebbs and flows. It’s even possible to spot a Dall sheep, an eagle or even a Beluga whale. This drive is along one of only a handful of roads designated as an All-American Road and one of 150 designated as a National Scenic Byway. There are a number of trails for hiking and biking around the city. Visit the many heritage museums, view the flood plains, and take your bicycle out for a spin. Take a side trip to Talkeetna.
