Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. There are a lot natural wonders here such as hot springs, rolling dunes, towering mountain peaks. Theres a lot more here than just the huge dunes that are the tallest in the US and cover 330 square miles. There is also forest and mountain ecosystems in the park. Zapata Falls is nearby. Biking, Birding, Campfire Rings, Wildlife Viewing, Take a walk on the Rio Grande River walk. The wetlands are great for birding and the UFO watch tower is one of the unique attractions in the area.

Parking Location

Please note: The lake is dry, windy and the road to San Luis Lakes Colorado State Wildlife Area, Mosca Campground is supposedly open sometimes depending on which direction but the road going there (17 to CR 6N), is closed due to construction. There are detours posted, but will need to approach from HWY 160. There is no dump or any water at all or trash. There are a few electric spots but your will still need to purchase a minimum of a 5 day fishing/camping pass for around $35 prior to getting there. Address – 1991 County Road 63, Hooper, CO. 81136. $35 – RV site with W and E + tax, dump on site included, fire pit and table, $175 per week. Dry Dock, $25 per night, $150 per week, Half off for pools/hot pools (family pool area 98-100), Greenhouse pools/hot pools (21 and over – 4 soaking pools at different temperatures) There is a small charge for the use of the pools, but you get half off if staying at the property. There is a grill restaurant at the family pool and small plate restaurant and bar at the Greenhouse. Laundry, showers and dump on property plus an overflow area just across the way at $10 a night. Take I-25 S 92 miles, exit 52 for I-25 S toward US-160 W/Walsenburg/Alamosa, keep right, turn right onto US-160 W/W 7th St., 71 miles, Right on CO-17, 20 miles, R onto CO Rd. B, Left onto CO Rd. 63. This will take you to the Sand Dune Recreation Area
