Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. There are a lot natural wonders here such as hot springs, rolling dunes, towering mountain peaks. There’s a lot more here than just the huge dunes that are the tallest in the US and cover 330 square miles. There is also forest and mountain ecosystems in the park. Zapata Falls is nearby. Biking, Birding, Campfire Rings, Wildlife Viewing, Take a walk on the Rio Grande River walk. The wetlands are great for birding and the UFO watch tower is one of the unique attractions in the area.

Parking Location

San Luis Lakes Colorado State Wildlife Area – Mosque Campground , 50 first come first served spaces, most with electric. Fishing license required to use the SWA and the campground. A 5 day fishing license available for $32 online or at the Alamosa Walmart. This requirement is being enforced by a campground host at this circuit stop. No water or dump station is available at the Mosca campground, so plan to arrive with water tank full and waste tanks empty. Drinking Water, Firewood, Hiking, Horseshoe Pit, Host, Interpretive Trails, Parking Area, Picnic Area, RV sites, Recycling, River Access, Trails, Trash Collection, Vault Toilets, Volleyball Courts

Directions and Other Information

From Alamosa, take Colorado 17 thirteen miles north, turn right onto Lane 6 north for 7.7 miles, turn left onto N CR-116 into the SWA, campground will be on the left.
